Title of Project
Notch size effect on constant amplitude and variable amplitude low cycle fatigue life
Advisor/s
Dr Greg Wheatley, Dr Ricardo Branco University of Coimbra
College or Research Centre
College of Science & Engineering
Summary of Project
Low-cycle fatigue tests under strain-controlled and stress-controlled conditions. Study the size effect for different loading histories. Develop a numerical elastic-plastic model to estimate the stress and strain fields at the notch region. Predict the fatigue life using fatigue parameters determined at CA for strain-controlled conditions. Develop a mixed numerical-experimental model to predict the fatigue life.
Key Words
Notch size effect; low cycle fatigue ; constant amplitude; variable amplitude
Would suit an applicant who
has a sound academic background, research experience, an interest in mechanical engineering and strong experimental and computational skills.
