Summary of Project

The use of solar power is now increasingly common to heat water for use in domestic hot water systems and pools. This projects seeks to explore the use of solar radiation as the heat source for chemical reactions. Most important chemical processes requiring some input of heat with solar radiation a potential “greener” alternative. Townsville, located within the tropics and with an average of 300 sunny days per year is well placed for such a study. The project is multi-faceted and will involve building new apparatus, conducting chemical reactions and analysis of results using state of the art instrumentation.
