Cameras

Cameras are use extensively throughout the university for streaming live video between rooms during video conferenced lectures and meetings.

Traditional high definition (HD) cameras, capable of both optical and digital zoom, have traditionally been used due to their pan, tilt and zoom function as well excellent streaming quality. With the introduction of desktop video conferencing and the explosive expansion of Zoom video conferencing as a result of the Pandemic, HD USB cameras have found increasing use.

Below are some examples of cameras in use at JCU

  • Cisco Precision
  • SONY
  • Panasonic
  • AVER
  • PTZ Optics
  • Logitech
  • Huddly

Tracking cameras were incorporated ion 2025 room designs and have been installed in both teaching and meeting room spaces at the Cairns and Townsville campuses. The initial reactions to their use have been predominantly positive and further use of tracking cameras are dependant upon pedagogy and academic interest.
