Exam rules and expectations

It is your responsibility to ensure that you are aware of the Online exam type, date and start time of your exam

Prior to sitting an exam, please read through the Examination Requirements Policy – this document includes the full list of exam rules and procedures.

Photo ID

You may be asked to  provide photo ID if your exam is being delivered using Respondus Lockdown Browser with Monitor. This can be your JCU Student ID card, driver’s license or other photo ID.

Exam rules in summary

  • Have your photo identification ready at the start of the exam if required.
  • All instructions for your exam will be provided to you on your LearnJCU subject site.
  • Follow the exam instructions provided to you on your LearnJCU subject exam at all times.
  • Do not communicate with anyone during the exam.
  • Do not used unauthorised materials during the exam.
  • Do not copy other students or allow others to copy your work.

Late Start

You must refer to the instructions provided on your timetable.  This will provide you a start date, start time and a window of time during which you can access and submit your exam.

If you start your exam late you will not be given additional time to complete the exam.  If there are exceptional circumstances for not being able to start your exam on time you may wish to consider applying to defer your examination; however a deferred exam will only be granted under exceptional circumstances.

Exam Conditions - Time Window

Under Exam Conditions on your timetable for each exam it will state the time allowance for accessing your exam.

Your time allowance will be either:


Exam Start time: 8.15 am 
Duration: 2 hours and 20 minutes

Exam Condition:   You must be logged into your exam at the scheduled date and time shown on this timetable; or



Exam Start time: 8.15 am 
Duration: 2 hours and 20 minutes

Exam Condition:   you must access the exam within X  hours from the exam start time shown on this timetable"  
(where X is the time specified on your timetable).

For this example, you need to ensure that you have logged in to access you exam by 13.55 pm to allow yourself the full 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete your exam before the access closes at 16.15 pm.

Special arrangements

Breaches of the exam rules

Any breach of the exam rules will be dealt with, as appropriate, by the subject coordinator n the first instance. Where inappropriate student conduct or academic misconduct is suspected, these breaches will be reported to the Director, Student Services.
