Exams

Exam preparation involves getting organised, actively participating in all learning activities and getting help from lecturers, tutors, and support staff when needed. It also involves understanding the type of exam set and the variety of questions or tasks you may be asked to complete.

Online Exam Types 2020

There are a number of types of online exams you may encounter. Check the information for your exam type below.

Online Exam A

An exam accessed through the LearnJCU subject site that allows you to sit an exam at your computer. This could include a quiz, test or short answer.

You must be logged into your exam at the scheduled date and time shown on your timetable.

Online Exam B

An exam which requires equations/graphs/drawings and is accessed through the LearnJCU subject site. Some questions in this exam will require you to handwrite equations/graphs/drawings. You will take a photo of your equations/graphs/drawings, save the image to your computer and upload the image to the question in your exam. Extra time for you to save and upload the image will be allocated.

Online Exam C

A non-editable exam script released to you for download on the LearnJCU subject site at a scheduled date and time.  Answer the questions in a separate document in the format indicated in the exam and upload the completed document via the relevant safe assignment drop box on the LearnJCU subject site before the published submission deadline. The deadline may be between 2 and 72 hours from the release time, check your specific requirements in the subject site.

It is recommended that you save the exam paper and your exam answers to your computer hard drive, or an external drive/USB, to minimise risk of access disruption when completing and uploading the exam.

You must access the exam within the set number of hours from the exam start time shown on your timetable.

Online Exam D

An exam accessed through the LearnJCU subject site and submission requires the student to install a PDF Image Converter app. This exam enables you to demonstrate equations, graphs and drawings. On completion you will take a photo of your work, transfer the image to a PDF via the PDF app then upload the file to the exam submission box. Further information on the application and installation of a PDF Image Converter app will be provided to you in advance. Extra time to transfer images to PDF will be allowed.

You must be logged into your exam at the scheduled date and time shown on your timetable.

Online Exam E

An online assignment with exam conditions accessed through the LearnJCU subject site and opened for a specified time frame. Once accessed the exam must be completed and submitted within the specified exam duration. The deadline may be between 2 and 72 hours from the release time, check your specific requirements in the subject site. You can only access the exam once.

You must access the exam within the set number of hours from the exam start time shown on your timetable.

Online Exam F

An online assignment with exam conditions accessed through the LearnJCU subject site, and opened within a specified time frame.  The deadline may be between 2 and 72 hours from the release time, check your specific requirements in the subject site. You can complete and submit the exam at any time during the specified time frame.

You must access the exam within the set number of hours from the exam start time shown on your timetable.

Online Exam with Respondus A

An exam that is accessed through the LearnJCU subject site and requires the installation of Respondus Lockdown Browser software.   Respondus Lockdown Browser prevents access to any website, email, apps, or documents (including copying and printing) during the online exam.

You must be logged into your exam at the scheduled date and time shown on your timetable.

Online Exam with Respondus B 

An exam that is accessed through the LearnJCU subject site and requires the installation of Respondus Lockdown Browser software, an internal or external webcam and a microphone.  Respondus Lockdown Browser prevents access to any website, email, apps, or documents (including copying and printing) during the online exam.  Respondus Monitor is a video monitoring service in Lockdown Browser that records you during your exam and is reviewed by your lecturer/subject co-ordinator after the exam takes place.

Online Oral Exam 

An oral exam that allows questions to be asked of you in Collaborate. You will access this exam through the Collaborate subject room in the LearnJCU subject site and it will be recorded.

Assignment Submission

An assessment scheduled for submission in the LearnJCU subject site during the exam period and timetabled to ensure no direct clashes.
