Majors – what are they?

Majors – what are they?

Note: This section is only required if you have to choose a major for your course.

A major is a specialised area of study within your course, and appears as a sub-structure in your overall study plan. When you choose a major, all of its core, optional and elective components  are saved onto your study plan.

The components of your major must be completed in order to finish your course.

For courses where you have to choose a major there may be two separate steps to take, depending on your course rules:

  • Choose your type of major, e.g. Single or Double
  • Choose the major itself e.g. Marine Biology or Anthropology

For more information regarding major types and disciplines, please visit the Choosing a component help page.

If you are unable to choose or change your major, contact your Divisional Enrolment Team (Townsville) or the Student Centre (Cairns).
