Support for students with English as second language

First of all, congratulations! Studying at university level in another language is a very brave move, so well done!

JCU

Studying in another language can present challenges, but it’s not just studying in another language that can cause problems - you’re also studying in another culture. Expectations of lecturers and tutors may be different from in your own country. Your role as a student may be different from your previous experiences. You may be confused by the Australian accent or overwhelmed by such a big life change.

And that’s where we come in. Here at the Learning Centre, we have Learning Advisors who are experts in teaching English as a Second Language, and we have also put together some resources in this section that we think will be helpful in your transition to studying in an Australian university.
