Moorrinya (an aboriginal word meaning ironbark, a type of eucalypt) is in the heart of the Desert Uplands. Formerly a sheep and cattle station, the shearing shed and other station infrastructure may be seen. This National Park contains a number of vegetation communities, particularly ironbark dominated woodlands and communities dominated by various species of Acacia or wattles as well as grassland including areas of Mitchell grass plains. Fauna includes kangaroos, emus and numerous reptiles, the diversity of habitats is reflected by the large number of plants and animals that have been recorded to date by researchers and students.
