The School of Marine and Tropical Biology runs an intensive field course in one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. Students are based in the lowland rainforests of the Danum Valley Field Centre in Sabah. During the course there are opportunities to visit the Gomatong Caves, which is home to 27 species of bats and two species of cave swiftlet; the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, famous for elephants and Proboscis monkeys and they also visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. Around the Danum Valley Centre which is home to over 550 species of mammals and birds not to mention the diversity of plants, there are opportunities to carry out a number of different field studies on both animals and plants. Cobras should be approached with caution!
