Distinguishing features

This herb grows to 1.2 m tall rarely more has ribbed stems usually tinged with red or purple. Leaves alternate, broader near base of plant, margins often toothed, lower surface often whitish. Flowers in clusters. Seeds glossy, black smooth or with a weak furrow. Edible but nitrates present.
