Distinguishing features

This is a weed of national significance. An escapee from the aquarium trade. Grows to about 1.2 m from rhizomes in the mud. Leaves take 2 forms; the submerged leaves are strap-like up to 50 cm long, while the aerial leaves are arrow-shaped on a long petiole. Petiole to 55 cm long, blade up to 50 cm long. Flowers in a raceme, white, separate male and female flowers on the same plant
