Menispermaceae

Menispermum, from Latin menis a tiny half moon-like device inscribed at the opening of books and spermum seed, referring to the shape of the seed. Climbers with alternate usually simple leaves, margins entire or lobed, often palmately-veined (species in at least one genus twine clockwise). Flowers small, usually unisexual or functionally so, mostly dioecious, 3-merous. Fruit a drupe with the style/stigma usually displaced to one side.
