Tacca, apparently from the Indonesian taka, the local name for these plants. Flowers 3-merous, in a head-like umbel, the bracts of the inflorescence form distinctive long tails. Staminal filaments flattened; carpels 3, ovary with 1 locule, inferior; fruit a capsule or berry.
