This bushy shrub or small tree has opposite, ovate to ovate-lanceolate leaves, oil-glands are present as in all Myrtaceae. The thin bark peels off in strips. The white flowers with numerous stamens are followed by fleshy, ribbed, red fruits. These are often made into jellies but in some south-east Asian countries they may be pickled and used in a variety of different dishes. There are a number of specimens near DA5.
