Description

This small herb, often multi-stemmed and rough to touch, is highly variable with respect to leaf shape and flower colour. Numerous varieties have been described. Leaves are simple opposite and usually to about 5 cm long. Flowers are 2-lipped in a terminal spike, corolla is chiefly mauve but may vary from white to blue often with purple spots. Fruit a capsule to about 7 mm long.
