This fungus has a large firm cap or bracket and grows on living and dead trees. Attacks a variety of species particularly Poinciana (Delonix regia), where spores often enter roots wounded by lawnmowers, ultimately leading to the death of the trees. The upper surface is hard and smooth and appears as though it has been varnished, hence sometimes called a copper bracket.. Lower surface is a lighter brown with numerous pores, when the cap is broken the exposed flesh is dark brown.
