Distinguishing features

A native of Africa, a densely tufted grass to 2 m tall, it out competes local grasses. Toxic to horses due to oxalates. Ligule densely ciliate. Inflorescence a spike-like panicle 7-30 cm long, spikelets to 3 mm long, often orange-tinged.
