Distinguishing features

This Indian native is an excellent erosion control plant however occasionally it escapes to nearby areas. Plants deeply rooted , stems in clumps; leaf blades to 90 cm long and up to 12 mm wide. Inflorescence a panicle, branches whorled, jointed; spikelets paired, falling entire at maturity, purplish. Related to lemon grass, Vetiver oil has medicinal properties.
