Description

This Asian native grows quickly and forms a dense shady tree, deciduous in spring when flowering. Twigs pale; the opposite leaves have a long petiole to 15 cm long, blade broadly ovate to 25 x 18 cm, 3-veined at base, 2 glands present on upper surface near junction of petiole and blade, stellate hairs present on lower surface. Flowers borne in racemes, tubular, markedly 2-lipped, yellow to brownish, stamens 4, one pair is sterile. Fruit a fleshy drupe to 3 cm long and 2.5 cm wide, orange-yellow at maturity.
