Rosaceae

Rosa was the Latin name for these plants, the rose was sacred to Venus the goddess of love. Trees, shrubs, scramblers or herbs; stipules present; leaves alternate, simple or compound, shape various, thorns and prickles common. Paired glands common at junction of petiole and leaf blade. Perianth with distinct calyx and corolla, corolla sometimes absent; free hypanthium common. Stamens and carpels usually numerous; fruits are diverse.
