Tamarix, Latin name for Tamarisk. Small trees or shrubs rarely herbs; leaves often much reduced, alternate. Flowers often grouped into racemes or panicles, distinct calyx and corolla 4-5 per whorl. Stamens often twice the number of the petals. Carpels usually 3-4, ovary unilocular, fruit a capsule.
