Zygophyllaceae

Zygophyllaceae

Zamia is Latin for loss, appears to have been named by Pliny (borne AD 23) because of the appearance of the old withered cones. Plants palm-like with a thick stem usually erect or with slender aerial parts produced from a subterranean stem. Leaves pinnate or bipinnate, midrib lacking. Male and female sporophylls aggregated to form cones.
