Description

This species has an underground stem from which arise 1-5 leaf-bearing branches and there are less than 12 pinnae on each. The leaves are glossy and leathery. The pinnules are rarely serrated on the upper margin. Separate male or pollen bearing cones and female cones. Although widely cultivated, it is found in nature from Cardwell to the McIlwraith Ranges in North Queensland and up to about 1000 m altitude.
