Elaeocarpaceae

Elaeocarpus, from the Greek elaia olive and karpos fruit as the fruit resembles an olive. Trees or shrubs with simple, alternate, occasionally opposite leaves, stipules present; margins usually toothed, maybe difficult to detect, domatia as foveoles common. Pulvinae common at junction of petiole and branch and at junction of petiole and leaf blade. Flowers 4-5-merous, stamens equal C, 2C or numerous. Fruit a drupe or bristly capsule.
