Hamamelidaceae

Hamamelis is from a Greek word for a pear-shaped fruit. Trees or shrubs, leaves alternate rarely opposite, simple, entire or lobed. Inflorescence usually a densely packed spike, flowers small, 4-5-merous. Ovary of 2 fused carpels; fruit usually a woody capsule.
