Leeaceae

Leeaceae

Leea was named after James Lee (1715-1795), a renowned London nurseyman. This family is now usually included in the Vitaceae, although it does not have tendrils but inclusion is supported on the basis of molecular studies. Understory shrubs with conspicuously swollen nodes and alternate compound often bi- or tri-pinnate leaves. Flowers 5-merous, fruit a berry.
