Xanthorrhoea, from the Greek xanthos yellow and rheo to flow, referring to the resin produced by these plants. Shrubs often arborescent, trunk usually erect and covered with packed leaf bases usually rhizomatous; leaves linear, crowded at the top of the trunk. Inflorescence a long cylindrical spike, woody; flowers 3-merous; fruit a capsule.
